MOC was awarded a five-year orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) grant by USAID Zimbabwe. The OVC program life cycle was intended to run from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2027.  However, it was implemented for two years and four months, suspended on January 27, 2025, and terminated on March 26 2025. The OVC program named Vana Activity was implemented in five districts of Zimbabwe (Harare, Chitungwiza, Goromonzi, Seke and Mazowe). Vana had an annual target of 46,335 OVC and their caregivers. Mavambo Orphan Care (MOC) was the lead partner for Vana consortium comprising the AIDS Counselling Trust (ACT), Howard Hospital (HH) and Seke Rural Home-Based Care (SRHBC) implementing in Harare South-West, Mazowe and Seke respectively. MOC implemented directly in Goromonzi, Chitungwiza and Harare. Musasa and CONNECT were the consortium technical partners on gender-based violence, mental health and psychosocial support. Vana aimed to improve health, safety, education, and economic outcomes for OVC and their caregivers. The specific objectives of the Activity were:

  1. Improve access to HIV care and treatment services for children, adolescents, and youth
  2. Strengthen child and family safety skills through improved access to HIV and GBV prevention, GBV response, and child protection services
  3. Improve economic stability and educational attainment for vulnerable children and their families
  4. Strengthen local systems for planning, coordinating, monitoring, and assuring the quality of services for vulnerable children and their families
